Tech Tip #3: How to Set Up Automatic Backups

Hard drives fail. Laptops get stolen. Accidents happen. The question isn't if you'll need a backup. It's whether you'll have one when that day comes.

The good news: setting up automatic backups takes less than 10 minutes.

Windows users: OneDrive

OneDrive is built into Windows 10 and 11. Open Settings → Accounts → Windows Backup and turn on folder backup. Your Desktop, Documents and Pictures will sync to the cloud automatically.

Mac users: Time Machine

Plug in an external hard drive, open System Settings → General → Time Machine, and select your drive. Your Mac will back up hourly, daily and weekly, hands free.

Both platforms: Google Drive

Download Google Drive for Desktop at drive.google.com. Set your important folders to sync, and your files will be stored safely in the cloud and reachable from any device.

The best backup is the one you set up and forget about. Don't wait until something goes wrong.
